The Sporting Week – May 25 – 31
The French Open starts this week, the FA Cup Final is on Sunday morning and the State of Origin between NSW and QLD on Wednesday night – strap yourself in for a big week!
The Must Watch: State of Origin – NSW v QLD | Wednesday May 27 | ANZ Stadium, Sydney | 8.00PM
The time has come, despite what state you live in or what sport you follow, to choose whether you are a cockroach or a cane toad. The NRL State of Origin, state against state, mate against mate and after New South Wales finally tasted victory after eight long years last year, they will be keen to repeat the dose. The NSW Blues are not without their injury problems and with star fullback Jarryd Hayne in San Francisco playing NFL, they will need others to step up. Looking forward to it and Phil Gould’s stirring pre-game speech under the posts.
The Well Worth a Look: FA Cup – Arsenal v Aston Villa | Sunday May 31| Wembley Stadium, England | 2.30AM
The 134th edition of the FA Cup Final sees defending FA Cup holders Arsenal face surprise finalists Aston Villa. The Gunners won the 2013/14 Final 3-2 against another Hull City, granting Arsene Wenger his first piece of silverware in nine long seasons and they will enter the 2015 final as they did in 2014, as heavy favourites. A resurgent Aston Villa under Tim Sherwood came from a goal down in the Semi Final against Liverpool and have also defeated Premier League Midlands rivals WBA and Leicester on the way to the final. Watch for Christian Benteke to make a mark!
For those that love their tennis, there is plenty on offer with the French Open on at Roland Garros over the next fortnight (Monday 25 May – 7 June, 2015).
